Jaclyn Smith Rewears 2023 Gown For The 2026 Emmys Red Carpet

Date:

Jaclyn Smith made a glamorous statement on the 2026 Emmys red carpet Monday night, stepping out in a striking gown that carried a special history of its own. The 80-year-old “Charlie’s Angels” star arrived at the ceremony wearing a light green Monique Lhuillier dress covered from top to bottom in delicate white feathers and shimmering sequins. While the elegant look appeared perfectly suited for one of television’s biggest nights, Smith revealed that the gown was not a new purchase. Instead, she reached into her own fashion archives and chose to wear the same dress she had previously worn for a family celebration.

Speaking on the red carpet, Smith explained that she was drawn to the gown because of its color and admitted that she had worn it before. The actress originally purchased the Monique Lhuillier design for her son’s wedding in July 2023. Rather than allowing the expensive and elaborate gown to remain in her closet after a single appearance, Smith decided to give it another moment in the spotlight at the Emmys. Despite its dramatic feathers and sequins, she joked about how comfortable she felt in the ensemble, describing the glamorous look as feeling almost like she was wearing her “nightgown.”

Repeating a dress at a major awards ceremony can attract attention, particularly when celebrities are expected to arrive in new and highly photographed looks. Smith, however, was unapologetic about her decision and made it clear that she sees nothing unusual about wearing a favorite outfit more than once. She recalled people questioning how she could repeat the gown for such a high-profile occasion, but she defended her choice by pointing to Princess Kate as an example. “If Princess Kate can re-wear something, I can re-wear something,” Smith said, referring to Catherine, Princess of Wales, who has frequently been photographed wearing previously seen outfits at public engagements and formal occasions.

For Smith, the decision also highlighted a more practical approach to fashion at a time when outfit repetition has become increasingly visible among prominent public figures. Her Emmys appearance demonstrated that an established designer gown does not necessarily lose its appeal after one public appearance. The light green color, feather detailing and sequins gave the dress a distinctly red-carpet presence, allowing Smith to bring a familiar piece from her personal wardrobe back into the spotlight nearly three years after its original outing.

Smith’s appearance at the Emmys was significant for another reason beyond her fashion choice. The actress attended the ceremony to honor her late “Charlie’s Angels” co-star Farrah Fawcett, as the iconic television series marked its 50th anniversary. Smith reunited with fellow former “Charlie’s Angels” stars Kate Jackson and Cheryl Ladd for the special occasion, bringing the three actresses together again on the Emmys stage. Their reunion served as a tribute to Fawcett and the enduring legacy of the series, which became one of the defining television shows of its era.

Between the emotional significance of the reunion and her decision to bring a beloved gown back from her closet, Smith’s Emmys appearance offered two distinctly personal elements. Her feather-covered Monique Lhuillier dress may have first been chosen for a family wedding in 2023, but its return to the red carpet showed that a memorable fashion piece can have more than one moment. At 80, Smith embraced the opportunity to revisit one of her favorite looks while also participating in a celebration of the series and co-stars that remain an important part of her career legacy.
